Motivational Enhancement and the Behavior Change Process (Archived)

Carlo C. DiClemente, PhD, ABPP

Motivation is not an on-off switch. Intentional behavior change involves a dynamic, multidimensional process that includes decision making, commitment, planning, behavior activation and maintaining change over time. This webinar will discuss motivation enhancement through the lens of the stages and processes of change. Enhancing motivation requires an understanding of the critical tasks involved in moving through the stages of change and learning how to activate client coping activities along the change journey. Motivational enhancement strategies and the concepts of change and sustain talk will be examined in the context of this process.
