The Awakening of Sleep Psychology: Moving Beyond Sleep Hygiene (Archived)

Jason C. Ong, PhD

Jason Ong, PhD, discusses how sleep psychology is an emerging specialty with several empirically supported treatments for sleep disturbances. This webinar provides an overview on the epidemiology of common sleep disorders and the role that psychologists can play in the assessment and behavioral/psychological treatment of sleep problems. Particular emphasis is given to cognitive behavior therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which is now recommended as the first-line treatment for chronic insomnia. Other techniques such as imagery rehearsal therapy for nightmares and adherence to positive airway pressure (PAP) are also discussed.
